Lufthansa, the German flag carrier, launched its third route between the European country and Mexico, connecting the city of Frankfurt with America Latina’s number one destination, Cancun.
Dirk Van Nieuwkerk , director for Mexico and Central America of the company, explained that the flight is on board an Airbus A340-300 with capacity for 228 passengers, divided into three sections: Premium Economy, Business and Economy Class; the latter has seats that can fully recline horizontally for greater passenger comfort .
For now, the Frankfurt – Cancun connection will have a frequency of two flights a week until April 9th, 2016, however, if it haves enough demand, the airline hasn’t ruled out the possibility of turning the Mexican Caribbean in a fixed destination.
About the arrival of the German airline to the city, the president of the Hotel Association of Cancun and Puerto Morelos, Carlos Gosselin, said it is the result of an extensive advocacy by various agencies such as the Office of Visitors and Conventions Cancun (CVB) and the State Ministry of Tourism.
Connections like these, will allow targeting a larger market segment, by attracting visitors with longer than average stays, therefore generating higher income.
Moreover, the director of tourism of Cancun, Francisco Reyes Lopez said that a German tourist on average spends about 2 thousand 500 dollars per person, with an average stay of 15 nights, three times more than the American market.
He also added that with the addition of this new route, the travel industry from Germany could be increased by up to 10% in 2016, a figure that is similar to the English market. Due to the destination’s tourist features, the mandatory doesn’t rule out for more airlines to incorporate seasonal flights, mainly from the east coast of the United States.
