Yucatan has won three of the four categories in which it was nominated in the 2015 Food and Travel Reader Awards, given to the best of gastronomy and tourism in Mexico.

At the awards gala held Wednesday Nov. 18, Yucatan was nominated as “Best Mexico destination”, “Best gourmet destination of Mexico”, “Best urban hotel in Mexico” and “Best ecological hotel in Mexico”. To pick the winners readers of the magazine “Food and Travel Mexico” voted through a digital platform in 2 stages, for 2 months.

Mérida won the “Best gourmet destination” category which recognizes the favorite place for a culinary journey, “that you love for its flavors and culinary traditions in the country.”

Thus the capital of Yucatan became the “gourmet capital of Mexico,” competing with destinations like Mexico City, Ensenada, Oaxaca and Puebla.

The award for “Best Urban Hotel in the Interior of the Republic” was captured by Merida’s Rosas & Xocolate on the Paseo de Montejo, and Xixim Ecoparaiso Celestun hotel won “Best Ecological Hotel in Mexico” award which recognizes accommodations committed to sustainability and the environment.
