PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Q. Roo — The bodies of the unfortunate senior couple, Canadian tourists who died in a jacuzzi at Playacar Palace Hotel, were claimed by their daughter, to repatriate them to their country of origin and give them a Christian burial.
Meanwhile the Attorney General of the State (PGJE) is investigating, and for this reason, entrepreneurs of this tourist destination called for clarification of the facts, because the incident threatens the image of the Riviera Maya.
The entrepreneurs said that although they were electrocuted, accidents happen anywhere in the world.
The Canadian senior tourist couple reportedly were electrocuted in the jacuzzi of room number 435 of the fourth level of the hotel Palace Playacar, where they were staying since Sunday Nov. 8, and where their naked bodies were found semi-submerged in the water by the daughter of the deceased. The couple were attending their daughter’s marriage in this holiday vacation hub, the main reason for the family to visit the Riviera Maya.
On Tuesday Nov. 10, Jullian Dorothy Mackenzie, 34 years old, accompanied by the Canadian consul, was presented to the investigating agency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPFC) of the PGJE to claim the bodies of her parents, John Maynard Mackenzie, 67, and Dorothy Raylene Mackenzie, 63, both retirees from Canada.
Clarify causes of death
Leaders of the business sector in the Riviera Maya asked to fully clarify the causes of death, because even though it is assumed that the cause was electric shock, the PGJE said in a press release that John Maynard Mackenzie was killed by heart attack and Dorothy Raylene Mackenzie by asphyxiation by drowning.
Finally, the entrepreneurs stated that accidents happen anywhere in the world, hence the importance of clarifying what happened and take preventive measures, because the economy of the Riviera Maya depends on tourism, which is why its image is of utmost importance.
