The 8th edition of the “Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress” took place September 27-30 in Orlando, Florida.

The Government of the State of Yucatan participated as a Silver Sponsor with an important delegation to promote the state as a key destination in Latin America for patients from around the world and as an ideal venue for companies and corporations dedicated to the health industry.

With more than 3,000 participants of which at least 200 were medical services buyers, the Orange County Convention Center  became for two days the most important global platform to generate quotes and rapprochement with the strongest players in the medical tourism sector, that last year only, accounted for an income of more than three billion U.S. dollars for Mexico, which by the way, is in second place of the world ranking, only behind Thailand and even above the the U.S.

For the first time in the history of Yucatan, the www.yucatanhealthcare.com platform has been launched internationally. This site brings together dozens of specialists, facilitators and facilities that meet worldwide certifications generating an aggressive promotional plan that positions the State as one of the most competitive Medical Tourism destinations in the country.

To that end, representatives of the Ministries of Tourism Development, Mr. Irak Greene Marrufo and Ms. Maria Leticia González Calcáneo, attended the event along with Lic. José Enrique Lixa Nechar from Economic Development and Lic. Karla Archundia Reyes from the Health Department, in order to conduct meetings and negotiations with facilitators and companies interested in sending patients to our region, ensuring compliance with international standards and generating higher revenue for hospitals, hotels and tourist sites that benefit from this promotion strategy.

Along with the State Government delegation, representatives of the private sector also attended the event. These enterpreneurs have confidence and good expectations in increasing the number of incoming patients from the United States, Canada and Central America in a very short term due to the low costs and excellent quality services that prevail in the region.IMG_0129

Yucatan is positioning as an attractive Medical Tourism destination for foreign visitors since they can save more than 50% of what the same treatment or specialized care would cost them back in their home country, with more efficient times and good results guaranteed.

Representing the Yucatan’s private initiative at the convention there was “Clínica de Mérida” Representative Dr. Luis Alberto Navarrete Jaimes; Director General of Technology and Innovation Park Anahuac University, Prof. Regina Garza Roche; Director of Medical Services Yucatan, Dr. José Enrique Guerra Ailloud; and Director of Central Dental Yucatan, Dr. Roberto Sosa Martinez Arredondo. Together, this group of specialists promotes with special attention, ophthalmology, dentistry, orthopedics, bariatric surgery and aesthetics.

Besides, hotels and luxury hosting are being promoted as options for patients needing long term medical treatment.

Yucatan also provides excellent investment opportunities for companies of the health sector, the state can be an open door for foreign capital to generate higher-paying jobs.

This event closes a very outstanding year for Yucatan in this area, having attended last August at Montreal, Canada, where the presentation of the www.yucatanhealthcare.com platform was officially made before more than 200 specialists, attracting the interest of a market niche with high purchasing power to visit the state.
