Tourists paying more for hotel rooms in top Mexican destinations

In Mexico domestic and foreign tourists paid higher prices for accommodation in the first half of 2015 compared to the first six months of last year, revealed the Hotel Price Index report.

The study by Hoteles.com, an online reservations site, said that in Xpu-ha, Riviera Maya, the price per room increased 18%. This location had the highest prices in Mexico, with an average of $4,627 pesos per night (USD$279).

Los Cabos increased 2.0 percent to an average of $3,507 pesos a night (USD$211); Cancun 9.0 percent to $3,276 pesos (USD$197); Riviera Maya 7.0 percent to $3,203 pesos (USD$193), and Puerto Peñasco 10 percent, to $2,578 pesos (USD$155) per night.

The study indicated that the average price of lodging represented a considerable increase per night within Mexico, ranging from $2,578 to $4,627 pesos (USD$155 to $279).

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo rose from $2,147 to $2,552 pesos (USD$129 to $154) per night, an increase of 19%.

The report said that the average cost per night in Mexico City remained at an average of $1,659 (USD$100).

The report includes the places where Mexicans paid most for a room in a five star hotel. These cities were Cancun, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Venice, New York, Jerusalem, Santiago and London, with prices from $6,699 to $8,094 pesos per night (USD$404 to $488).
