On Tuesday October 6th, Federico Lombardi, Vatican spokesman, officially announced that Pope Francis will travel to Mexico in early 2016.

In an interview with Televisa News Reporter and Vatican correspondent Valentina Alazraki, Lombardi announced that although the full agenda of this visit will be published at the latest during the month of November, the pope himself will travel to Mexico City, where he will visit the Basilica of Guadalupe.

According to Alazraki, the pontiff’s visit will take place during the first half of the year, although the Vatican has not specified the exact dates yet.

The journalist reported that soon the dates of the first visit of Pope Francis to Mexico will be made official.
