MEXICO CITY — Located on Moliere, just half a block away from Avenida Presidente Masaryk, one of the most exclusive streets of Mexico City, what must be consecrated as the largest Yucatecan food restaurant in the capital opened its doors on October 2.

The former Yucatan governor and currently plurinominal PRI deputy, Ivonne Ortega Pacheco, has joined forces with restaurateur and entrepreneur Gerardo Ruiz de Velasco Rejon to open the luxury restaurant “Casona La Yucateca” where, say, you can find the best traditional dishes of the Yucatan.

Recently, chef José Alberto Gómez Cuellar spoke about his first week in charge of the restaurant kitchen. Originally from the State of Mexico, he admits that it is the first time venturing into Yucatecan cuisine, with which, he says, he was completely in love.

“It’s a new experience within a matter of flavors, ingredients, color. The touch of Yucatecan food is unique, its colors are amazing, ” he says.

The menu includes tortas de cochinita (bread made in a wood oven), dzic, shrimp steamers and oregano, beans with pork, xec of scallops and fillet of beef stuffed with cochinita.

“Casona La Yucateca” is located on Masaryk Avenue, the most exclusive area of the fashionable Polanco neighborhood.
