U.S. supports Mexico’s efforts to save the “Vaquita Marina” in Baja California

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Anthony Wayne, recalled that the U.S. and Mexico have worked together for decades to protect natural resources and biodiversity in North America.

The United States supports the measures announced by President Enrique Peña Nieto to protect two marine species at risk of extinction, the totoaba fish and the vaquita, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Anthony Wayne said.

The diplomatic representative accompanied the Mexican president to the port of San Felipe, Baja California, where he announced these measures.

Anthony Wayne recalled that the U.S. and Mexico have worked together for decades to protect natural resources and biodiversity in North America.

“The United States has a long history of supporting the efforts of the Mexican government to save the vaquita and the totoaba fish, and welcomes the opportunity to work with Mexico to support the plan announced by the president” said Anthony Wayne.

During the event, the Ministry of Navy (Semar) received “Defender” class-boats to patrol in preventing illegal fishing.

This cooperation includes partnerships between national parks and environmental quality improvement along the shared border.
