The exposition, called “El Cuerpo, los tesoros del Museo Soumaya” (The Body, treasures of the Soumaya Museum), will be displayed in the cultural center of Merida ‘OLIMPO’ until April, as part the celebration of Merida’s 473rd anniversary.
Mayor Renán Barrera Concha declared that the Soumaya Museum and the City of Merida share the same vision, stating that art is not only for the elite, but for all the people.
The Museo Soumaya is a private museum and non-profit cultural institution owned by Mexican Billionaire Carlos Slim. It comprises two museum buildings in Mexico City.
“I’m very pleased that the Carlos Slim foundation is giving us access to this collection for locals and tourists to enjoy.
“This is an example of our cultural heritage, motivating the reflection and creativity of each person, because we are convinced that art makes better citizens”.
“Citizens are looking for culture, culture with values, culture for new audiences, culture for reflection, under the umbrella of a multicultural society”.
It’s taking place in a public forum with free access, which I am sure will spark interest among experts and curiosity from new art admirers”, stated Renán Barrera Concha.
The curator of the Soumaya Museum, Gabriela Huerta Tamayo, added that she feels proud of the opportunity to display this innovative artistic expression in the Yucatan.
The exposition is open to the public and admission is free.
