On the early morning hours of Wednesday December 17th, local and state police responded to a call for help received from Hotel Oviedo, located on Calle 62 (between 65 and 67), in the downtown area.

According to the first reports 2 men registered at Hotel Oviedo earlier in the day, and after checking in, they waited in their room for the receptionist to close the iron gates for the night.

Moments later, one of the individuals (who registered using false names), showed up at the front desk and told the recepcionist that there was no hot water in his room and needed his help, when the hotel employee accompanied the man to the room, the other man threatened him with a pistol, punched him in the face, tied him hand and feet and locked him up in the room.
