Mexican airline VivaAerobus will begin flights from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Guadalajara and Monterrey on March 28, 2015.

The low-fare carrier won U.S. approval for those flights in September.

We are thrilled to announce the addition of these two new services,” VivaAerobus chief executive officer Juan Carlos Zuazua said, calling the flights “a significant milestone” in developing a network of flights in the U.S.

The airline also plans to begin D/FW-Cancun flights in July.

D/FW Airport CEO Sean Donohue said the carrier “represents a new option for D/FW customers to travel to Mexico, and we’re happy to have them here at D/FW Airport. VivaAerobus has been gaining in popularity and market share in Mexico, and we believe it will make a great partner for us and a great option for our Dallas-Fort Worth customers.”

The airline will start out with three flights a week to Guadalajara on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and two flights a week to Monterrey on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

In its September request, VivaAerobus said it originally planned to begin flights in December 2014. The plans included four weekly flights each to Cancun, Guadalajara and Cabo San Lucas and three weekly flights to Monterrey.

VivaAerobus will face strong competition on the three routes it announced Friday.

American Airlines Inc. and subsidiary Envoy Air operate three flights every day to and from the DFW-Guadalajara market.

American has four daily flights to Monterrey, and five daily flights to Cancun.
