PROFECO warns of fraudulent sale of “Timeshare” by companies operating in Quintana Roo

During the first week of the summer holiday season, the Federal Consumer Office (PROFECO), identified seven companies operating in the state of Quintana Roo that have deceived people by “selling” them false timesharing properties, collecting up to 35,000 pesos as down payment for timesharing properties throughout Mexico.
Sara Latife Ruiz Chavez, Delegate of Profeco in Quintana Roo declared that the Federal Agency has issued a warning of irregularities in the marketing of mediation contracts for the supply of tourism services in the state by the following companies:
  1. Inverflow S.A. de CV
  2. Word Travel Service S.A. de CV
  3. Travel World Travel Service Inc. de C.V.
  4. World Exclusive, Inc. de C.V.
  5. Destination and Operator Services International, SA de C.V.
  6. Distributor SA Travel Collection de C.V.; and
  7. Global Services SA Tourism de C.V.

She noted that these companies, apparently based in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Merida and other major Mexican cities, operate by renting conference rooms, restaurants and convention centers at five star hotels in Quintana Roo, where they hold their events over the course of a weekend, collect down payments, and then disappear.
There have already been 20 complaints filed at the PROFECO delegation in Cancun, with reports of similar cases in the Riviera Maya since 2013.  Anyone who has been affected by these fraudulent scams should file a “denuncia” with the PROFECO.
