During the summer holidays in Yucatan, the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) has heightened their security strategies to prevent vacations from becoming tragedies, both on the road and at the beach.
First Officer Santiago Massa Ramos, Operating Coordinator of the SSP Ambulance Unit, declared that the law enforcement agencies in Yucatan will increase the number of alcohol check points and vary their times and locations, in an attempt to detect every single person driving under the influence
Official Massa Ramos said the breathalyzer device has now been accepted by the population, since it has resulted in reducing the number of accidents and the frequency of tragedies that affect families significantly.
Massa Ramos also stated that he has seen how an accident can disrupt the life of a family, dragging them into overwhelming debt. He urged motorists to drive with caution and to avoid using their cellphones while driving.
