Dining with Dick and Jane: Ki’hanah, Nice Atmosphere and food in the Yucatecan style

Ki’hanah is a relatively new restaurant on the Main Square featuring Yucatecan fare.  The place is small, however with GREAT food served in their contemporary décor dining room with rustic tables & chairs are complemented with an expo kitchen separated by a glass wall, which makes for a truly unique dining experience in Centro.  There are only 2 outside tables currently, however Dick speculates that the al fresco seating will be expanded as the weather cools off – it’s the PERFECT location for that type of dining.

The staff greeted us with a KISS and seated us as soon as we walked in the door.  Drinks were promptly served and the chaya was GREAT.  Since they didn’t have Dick’s preferred Cerveza Obscura on hand, instead of saying NO TENGO – the owner discretely slipped out the door and went to pick up a 6 pack for our dining pleasure.  Now that’s SERVICE.

The menu had all of the Yucatecan offerings that we love, however they were trying some new fish dishes in the kitchen so upon being offered that treat we opted for both of the fish specials.  The fish dishes were Pescado con Crema de Chaya and Pescado al Tikinxik(see pics below).  The fish with the veggies was very good but the fish with the Chaya Crème was UNBELIEVABLE.  Dick has become a huge chaya fan since arriving in Merida and can’t seem to get enough.  Apparently the fish was well received by all as they are now permanently on the menu as of the writing of this review.

We ordered the sopa de lima as a starter and found it on par with the others offered in town and the empanadas were quiet tasty as well.  The finishing touch to the meal was the MANGO ICE CREAM.  WOW was it fresh tasting and yummy.

The General Manager Joss and the Owner Silverio from Puebla each spent time with us discussing the restaurant, it’s menu and their experience there over the past 6 months.

After our Ki-hanah visit and a great experience, we are happy to recommend this specially located restaurant to those with a desire for a nice atmosphere and food in the Yucatecan style.  We have already returned since our initial visit. 14-05 22
