On Monday April 28, 2014, the PGR confirmed that more than 2,000 liters of diluted cocaine were seized in a container secured in the port of Progreso, Yucatán.

The drug arrived to Progreso on Friday April 25th, and it was transported within two electric power generators, which were transferred from Buenos Aires, Argentina inside a container.

The liquid cocaine ran the following path:  it was shipped in Argentina, then went through Panama, Jamaica and finally arrived to Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico in a boat with Israeli flag. The shipment final destination was the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Several government agencies took part in the seizure, like the Criminal Investigation Agency of the PGR, the Internal Revenue Service and the Mexican Navy.

Both generators contained dielectric oil inside (insulation), combined with diluted cocaine. Initially the container was opened to see what merchandise it transported, and after an inspection with Gamma Rays and “X” rays was performed, the analysis concluded that the liquid was not part of the electric transformers, but in fact diluted cocaine.

The total that was seized was 2,360 liters that after a chemical process would turn it into 900 kilograms of pure cocaine.

This amount of drug would worth up to 45 million American dollars, considering that the price of a gram of cocaine in the U.S. black market is 50 dollars.
