On Friday May 23rd, 2014, a nine year old child was taken to a hospital here in Mérida after suffering a blow to the head when one of his classmates smashed him against a wall during a school recess .

Clearly, this is a case of ” bullying ” since the incident took place in an elementary school , and the affected child suffered a head injury.

The Attorney General’s Office reported that the child was admitted at the  “Ignacio García Téllez” Hospital of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS ) on Friday May 23rd, due to injuries sustained during school recess.

The boy’s mother said her son was at school when a fellow classmate pushed him against the wall, causing him a hard blow to the head.

Local authorities have not confirmed whether it was a case of ” bullying” , but declared that, it is a fact that the child suffered a moderate head injury.

However, they reported that a few weeks ago the Yucatan Institute for Gender Equality  (Instituto para la Equidad de Género de Yucatán) has been implementing different programs and activities in several elementary schools of the state ,  to prevent “bullying” and violence  among school children.
