Tonight, Grand Opening of “Coliseo Yucatan”

With a total investment of 280 million pesos (around 20.7 million USD), the “Coliseo Yucatán” (Yucatan Coliseum Entertainment Centre) opens its doors tonight with Maná, considered as one of the largest Latin rock bands in the world.

With an infrastructure of 3,000 m3 of concrete, 2,000 tons of steel, 3,000 metal panels , 8,000 m2 of roofing, a height of 40 meters and capacity for 10,800 spectators, the arena is ready to host the best artistic , sporting and cultural events  in the Yucatán Peninsula .

The “Coliseo Yucatán” is located north of the city, in the Merida -Progreso highway, kilometer 14.5 . It has a parking lot big enough for 2,000 vehicles, VIP boxes, restaurant , bar , lounges and a food court where you can find franchises such as TGI Friday’s, The Fabulous Fries , Dairy Queen , The Locker, Pizza Hut, Daly, Dani Daniels and Pueblotas (among others).

Gabriel Castillo Peralta, administrative manager of the “Coliseo Yucatán”, declared that the entertainment center is unique in the Peninsula due to its size and architectural features,  and that it provides a space built especially for big events.

All the comfort and safety of a World Class venue right here in Merida, Yucatán” stated the executive, who added that the new center will create 400 direct and 800 indirect jobs.

Coliseo Yucatán has two entrances for the public : general and box owners , five levels , over 150 restroom areas , 34 gold and 30 platinum boxes , two patios, four dressing rooms, four production offices, newsroom , infirmary, chapel, shop and four storage areas.

Castillo Peralta explained that the Maná concert have already sold 8,000 tickets offered , among box owners and general public, since the capacity is 10,800 , the seats are located behind the stage where musicians will perform.

Maná is: Fher Olvera (vocals), Alex Gonzalez (drums ), Sergio Vallin (guitar) and Juan Calleros (bass ).

The Coliseo Yucatán opens to the public at 6:00 pm, and the concert is programmed to start at 9pm .

A ” swarm ” of workers are still onsite right now, finishing detials on the food court, placing signals at the access points , cleaning the hallways , chairs and armchairs .

Ever since the beginning of this week , a crew of workers unloaded four trailers full of lighting and sound equipment ,  as well as the instruments that will be use by the band for the concert tonight.

To reach the Coliseum Yucatan (if you are coming from Merida), take the highway to Progreso, past the first bridge and exit as if you were heading to Dzityá, make a U turn and about 500 feet ahead, you will see the entrance to the parking lot. The building is visible from the highway.

Police Officers from State Public Security , private security and the Red Cross will be present at the site to help and serve the attendees.

The place can also be reached by public transportation ( just take th bus tha says Centro – Coliseo, Minis Komchén 2000 Route). The bus stop is located at Calle 59 (x 58) Downtown Merida , the cost is $ 7 each way and there will be buses available starting at 5:00 pm. Taxis will also be available on the parking lot a the end of the concert.
