The XII National Tourism Forum: positioning the “Mundo Maya” as a World Class Tourist Destination

The XII National Tourism Forum will take place in the city of Merida, Yucatan; from February 23rd to the 25th, bringing together the ministers of five countries with one mission in common, positioning the Mundo Maya as a World Class Tourist Destination.

Tourism Ministers from Guatemala , Belize, Honduras , El Salvador and Mexico will discuss specific routes, visa issues, complementary tourist services and national and regional associations to promote an attractive product for foreign markets.

Tourism industry authorities from the states of Chiapas,  Tabasco,  Campeche,  Quintana  Roo and obviously Yucatán will be also present on the forum, as an essential part of this project.

During the meeting which will be held in the capital of the state of Yucatán, the participants will present initiatives to attract visitors from North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia, offering tours to the top archaeological sites within the nations involved, avoiding complicated border crossing and providing the traveler with an all around experience of the Maya Culture in the region.

At a press conference,  Secretary of Tourism Promotion of the state, Saul Ancona, announced that the forum will focus on ways to joint working between Mexico and Central America to promote the Mundo Maya .

The tourism industry official announced that the meeting specific issues are mainstreaming, product innovation, diversification and increased economic benefit.

The air and ground transportation,  accommodations, tour operator integration between countries, credit availability and modernization of the archaeological tourism model will be other points of debate.
