Antonio William Barroso Romero was arrested by the Federal Ministerial Police , because he could not prove the legal origin of more than seven tons of sea cucumber that he was carrying in the back of his truck in the city of Tizimin, Yucatan.

The incident occurred last Friday February 14th, when officers conducted an operation on Calle 20 (x 50), in Tizimín’s Fraccionamiento Fovissste.

The police intercepted the refrigerated truck for a routine revision and they found 320 boxes with a total of 7,952 kilograms of processed brown sea cucumber.

The federal agents asked Romero Barroso for his permits to carry the cargo, but the driver did not have any permits whatsoever, and could not prove the legal origin of the merchandise.

Given the facts, the police proceeded to arrest Romero Barroso, who was therefore submitted to the Federal Public Ministry for the integration of a preliminary investigation .

The subject was finally consigned to the First District Court, as a suspect of crimes against the environment, specifically for possession of aquatic species in temporary closure.
