From the foothills of the Himalayas to Reykjavik, Iceland, Indian Artist Baniprosonno has delighted both adults and children with his various talents.  His drawings and paintings have appealed to art collectors around the world, while his paper sculptures and nonsense rhymes have appealed to children of all ages.  SoHo Galleries’ exhibit, opening Friday January 10 at 7:00pm, will feature new works on canvas and paper by Baniprosonno, who will be present to greet art lovers and discuss his techniques..

Bani’s works on canvas feature bold, confident strokes and unbridled use of solid colors for works that will grab the viewer’s attention and hold it.

Bani has had more than a hundred one man shows, and has displayed his works in Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kathmandu, Paris, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Oslo, Stockholm, and Reykjavik among other places.  He is also a master chef, and is planning a cookbook called Cooking without a Cookbook.  (How would you use such a book?  The mind reels).  Institutions that have invited him to show his creations include:

Commonwealth Institute, London

Kulturhuset, Stockholm

Sonja Henie Art Centre, Norway

Nordjyllands Kunst Museum, Aalborg, Denmark

Kulturamt, Kiel

A.O.F.A., Kolkata

Jahangir Art Gallery, Mumbai

LÁ Art Museum, Hveragerdi

Listamen Gallerie , Reykjavik,.

The show continues Saturday morning at 10:30 am, with a sale of hand-made Indian textiles, ranging in size from pillow covers to queen-size bed covers, each one unique, and each one depicting scenes of village life, telling a story unfolding slowly over time.  Designs are intricate, and reveal something new with each viewing.  Each quilt represents thousands of hours of work made by the women of Bihar, a state in northeastern India.
