“During 2011 and 2012 there was a total of 10,000 rooms in Merida’s hotel zone, and in 2013 the number grew up to 11,000 rooms,” said Saul Ancona Salazar, head of the Ministry of Tourism Promotion of Yucatán (SEFOTUR).

He noted that this year at least two new hotels will be opening, not to mention those yet to be built.

“The construction of the Hotel Fiesta Inn will be finished between March and April, while the Hotel Hampton Inn, located next to the Holiday Inn Express, will begin construction in the first half of this year, which will offer 200 more rooms. In addition, there will be smaller hosting centers,” announced Ancona Salazar.

He also indicated that the lodging tax revenue will be applied in tourism campaigns nationwide.

“A tender for tourism advertising was made nationally and the results are being evaluated by the Technical Committee of the Tourism Board of Yucatan”, he concluded.
