With a 79.4% in the annual hotel occupancy, 2013 became the best year for Tourism in the history of the Riviera Maya, with occupancy rates above those achieved in 2012 when it was considered the most significant tourism boom with  74.42% annual occupancy.

In fact, there were  40,231 rooms occupied at the end of December of 2013, while in 2012, there were only 40,178.

This information was released by the Riviera Maya Tourism Promotion Board on January 2nd, but in addition, the tour barometer will be joining this information that contains the exact number of tourists arriving to this destination and their nationality, which will be published in the upcoming weeks.

The difference of 4.43% points comparing 2013 with 2012 was noticeable from the first quarter, although in the beginning was 6%, which could not be maintained further than half of a year.

In 2012 the Riviera Maya reached 3, 895, 538 tourists, and it is presumed that the 2013 has reached at least 160,000 visitors more. Over the logic of growing the same percentage achieved last year (4% ),  this is the first time in history that this destination reaches over 4 million tourists a year, something that was predicted 12 months ago by Dario Flota Ocampo, Director of the Riviera Maya Tourism Promotion Board.
