Expo Feria Valladolid starts today

The XXIII “Expo Feria Valladolid 2014” (Expo fair Valladolid 2014),  will be inaugurated today by Governor Rolando Zapata Bello and Valladolid Municipal authorities, it is a celebration in honor of the Candelaria Virgin (Virgen de Candelaria). The celebrations last more than two weeks.

The schedule for today is:

5pm to 6:30: Catholic ceremony at the forecourt of the church of San Bernardino of Siena. Also a walk will be made from this site to the sanctuary of the Virgin of the Candelaria, in the neighborhood of the same name.

6:30pm: “Alborada night”. Regional music in honor of the Virgin of the Candelaria and the town of Valladolid.

7:00pm: “Paseo de las mestizas”, all the women in town, despite their age, dress in traditional Yucatecan clothing “huipil” and walk through the streets of Valladolid.

8:00pm: Official Inauguration ceremony.

8:30pm: The Queen of the festival (Queen of the Jubilee) is crowned in a public ceremony.

9:00pm: Fireworks show.

9:30pm: “Regia Vaquería” with the Orchestra of Victor Soberanis. The “Vaquería” is one of the most widespread traditional festivals in Yucatan. It was originated in the times of the Spanish Colony, during the XVI Century, and it is held annually in honor of the patroness of the City of Valladolid.

10:00pm: Restaurants and clubs are open to the public on the grounds of the Expo Fair.
