3rd Annual Riviera Maya Film Festival, March 9 – 15

The second edition of the “Riviera Maya Film Festival” will take place from 9 to 15 March, with the main  objective of promoting new innovative film projects in order to position high quality Mexican movies in the national and international market.


The program will be divided in five different venues:

  • Playa del Carmen: Plaza Pelicanos and Parque Fundadores
  • Tulum: Explanada Municipal and Papaya Playa
  • Puerto Morelos: “El unico” Beach Club
  • Cancun: Parque de las Palapas and Cancun’s Drive Inn (Autocinema)
  • Riviera Maya:  Several outdoor locations



There is a first prize of 300 thousand pesos in cash for the best movie, plus a bonus of one hundred thousand pesos that will be awarded to the director of the winning film.



Paula Astorga: In 2004, she founded the International Contemporary Film Festival of Mexico City (FICCO), she has been known for her work as a developer of film production.

Vimukthi Jayasundara: Sri Lanka’s acclaimed and award winning film director-Based in Paris- and Colombo.

Robert Koehler:  film critic contributing to Cinema Scope, Arts Meme, Filmlinc, Film Comment, Cineaste and Film Journey. He is also a reknown festival programmer.

Gerardo Naranjo: Film director and writer, known for Miss Bala (2011), Voy a explotar (2008) and Drama/Mex (2006).

Isild Le Besco: French actress. She is of mixed Breton, Vietnamese, French and Algerian descent. She has starred in many films, including Sade (2000), a French film starring Daniel Auteuil, and in The Good Heart, directed by Dagur Kari. She is the sister of actress and film director Maïwenn and the daughter of actress Catherine Belkhodja.


In its first edition (2012), this film festival consisted of 70 films that were exhibited not only in movie theaters, but also in some of the most beautiful scenery of the Riviera Maya, providing the audience an unforgettable experience.

By 2013, more 39,000 spectators attended the different exhibitions, and for 2014, the expectations are higher.
