Extortionist arrested minutes after committing crime

0206133765b4902medMinutes after collecting 16,000 pesos, the extortionist Jose Humberto Balam Camara, 23 years old, was arrested in downtown Merida by officers of the SSP.

According to the police, a  woman asked for help, explaining that minutes earlier, her husband received a phone call from an anonyms man asking for a large amount of money, warning at the same time to not go to the police.
She told the police that the extortionist threatened to kill her husband and family, cause physical damage to her business and kill her employees, fearing that something would happen to her husband she decided to ask the police for help.
The woman described the man to the police and reported that she gave him 1,000 pesos in cash and a check for 15,000 pesos. She also declared to know the suspect, she recognized him as the romantic partner of one of her former employees.
Balam Camara was approached by police when he was walking on the street 62 to 69 of the Historic Center. When the officers asked him to show the content of his pockets they discovered the cash and the check reported by the businesswoman, who fully identified Balam Camara as the extortionist.
