The State Tax office (SAT) commonly known as “Hacienda” has installed electronic ticket machines at the archeological zone of Chichen Itza, due to financial irregularities reported at the ticket booth, stated Juan Gabriel Ricarde, head of the tax office.

“Last year we detected less income into the archeological zone concerning entry tickets, even though the Secretary of Tourist Development had reported a good influx of visitors. It has been discovered that workers at the entrance did not tear the paper ticket in order to report the entry of the visitor, so they could re-sell the ticket”. Gabriel Ricarde informed the public.

The estimated income for the first semester of 2012 was 56 million pesos. Since the new electronic system was installed and functioning, Chichen Itza has reported an income of 85 million pesos, 30 million more than expected.

“We noticed this situation and we informed the governor, who immediately gave the order to change the sale ticket system, even though many workers at the zone got angry.” Gabriel Ricarde reported.

Yucatan Government plans to implement the electronic ticket system in Dzibilchaltún and Uxmal where the same irregularities have been observed.
