For a Consistent Improvement in Medical Quality…
On July 3 the Hospital de Alta Especialidad (High Specialization Regional Hospital) was the site for the Third Anniversary Medical Seminars 2011, where the Asociación de Profesionales de la Salud Star Mérida A.C (Star Mérida Association of Health Care Professionals, a Civil Association) convoked physicians, paramedics and the general public to participate in this academic gala.
Dr. Mario Alberto Del Villar Cervera, President of the Association organizing the event, expressed his interest and commitment to medical education and its constant updating. He likewise acknowledged the hard work of the organizing committee led by Dr. Francisco Silva Campechano, academic coordinator of Star Mérida A.C. and in particular the teaching department of the Hospital de Alta Especialidad de Mérida, Yucatán (High Specialization Hospital of Mérida, Yucatán). He further expressed his thanks to the Secretary of Health, Dr. Alvaro Quijano Vivas for attending the opening ceremony.
“One of the primary objectives of these medical seminars is to exchange medical experiences, since we have physicians in different specialties who come from various states throughout the country as well as from different private and governmental health facilities, with up-to-date knowledge,” explained Dr. Francisco Silva Campechano.
The medical seminars are not solely intended for general practitioners but also for specialist physicians, as such they deal with diverse and up-to-date topics such as depression, nutrition, obesity and cardiovascular problems, post menopause and its impact social and psychological, and diabetes among others.
One of the topics with the most participation was “Legal Security in the Practice of Medicine”, which dealt with the involvement of physicians within the new legal framework for public hearings or trials, and since medical records are defense documents in medical malpractice lawsuits, attorney Lic. Luis Mugarte Guerrero briefed the participants on this new dynamic and how to be prepared should they be a defendant or if called as a witness.
Silva Campechano explained that because the pharmaceutical industry is closely linked with the physicians, it plays an important role and similarly offers financial support in conducting events such as this, thus allowing the Association to continue growing and at the same time to promote education and updating of physicians.
The Third Anniversary Medical Seminars 2011 have the backing of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (National Autonomous University of Mexico) and the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (Autonomous University of Yucatán or UADY for short in Spanish), and therefore, the participants will receive a certificate carrying educational value endorsed with the signature of Doctor Ermilo Contreras Acosta, Head of Graduate Studies and Research Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the UADY.
The medical seminars of the Asociación de Profesionales de la Salud Star Mérida A.C, led by Dr. Mario Alberto Del Villar Cervera, have great social value in the sense that they promote constant physician education and updating within the framework of ethics and professionalism which is reflected in the quality of medical services offered to the people of Yucatán and in many cases patients from neighboring states.
